Will Johnston is the main character in the episode "The Dead Body" and later become the deuteragonist of its sequel, "Dead Bodies".
History[]
Will Johnston was born on January 20th, 1995 to unknown parents. He was very shy which made him a target for bullying. He had a crush on classmate Anna Murray.
On March 13th, 2011, Will was walking down the hallway while walking past his crush Anna. He was then attacked by two school pupils Travis and Chang. Will and his friend were walking in the school courtyard, While his friend is talking , Will is visibly admiring Anna . His friend teases him about it. Will denies this but his friend doesn't buy it. Will is nervous about Anna turning him down which his friend believes. He says goodbye to him as he walks home. Will is walking home as he witnesses paranormal activity. A gate randomly shakes and a trash lid flies off but he brushes it off. He walks down an alleyway. A mysterious fog comes through and it scares him and a dog wildly barks. He walks into a scary mask but it was revealed it was Travis and Chang pulling a prank on him. They run off laughing leaving Will alone. He then discovers a teenager about his age named Jake Skinner. Jake questions why Will lets Travis and Chang bully him. Will however, is positive they will beat him up and he leaves Jake who looks behind him.
The next day, Will overhears Anna talking to a classmate about her dad offering to buy her dress and jeans for an upcoming Spring Cotillion. He tries to whisper to her but she doesn't hear. When the bell rings he follows her into the hallway. He shouts her name which frightens her causing her to drop her binder. He helps pick it up, he then asks if she is going to a class field trip. She says yes. She starts to walk away but Will stops and then begins to ask her to the cotillion. But Travis throws a drink at Will’s pants making a joke that he wet himself. Anna then tells him they sucks and suggests he wash himself off. Enraged, Will wishes he could get revenge on them. Anna says it not a good idea and she leaves for class. Will stands by the lockers while Jake stands next to him saying that if he doesn’t do anything they won’t stop. Will remarks “ I don’t think I’m that somebody.” Jake then says he is which confuses Will. He offers to take care of Travis and Chang. Will then asks why would he do that. Jake considers this as a favour saying if he needs anything Will needs to help him. Will having no other choice agrees offering to shake Jake’s hand. Jake doesn’t shake his hand saying he trusts him as he walks away.
While on a nature field trip, Will and Anna talk. Travis and Chang are seen walking down their path. Travis is carrying something which is Poison Ivy. Will jokes saying should he tell him if it’s poison Ivy which catches Travis’s attention. Will then tells him it’s Poison Ivy since he can tell by the three leaves. Travis angered throws it at him and starts pushing him around, causing him to fall down and find shoes. Anna then panicky asks if someone is sleeping there. Travis thinks it is a bum but Will remarks a bum wouldn’t be in the middle of the woods. Will begins to look at the body and then declares he thinks it a dead body. Anna is panicked but Travis and Chang starts to say it has maggots all over him. Travis finds it as a way to get revenge by daring Will to touch him. Anna runs to get the teacher but Travis and Chang remain still waiting for Will to touch him. Will removes leaves over the body as bugs crawl all over the body. The body then gets up and shouts scaring Travis and Chang. Will starts laughing revealing it was Jake. Will and Jake have a laugh considering the reaction of Travis and Chang. Will thinks he’s even with them but Jake, thinks that they need to kick it up a notch since they humiliated him in front of Anna. Will then asks Jake why does he want to help him so much which Jake declaring he doesn’t like bullies and Jake reminds him of their deal. Will watches Jake run off. Will then runs into Anna again scaring her. He then reassures her it’s just him. She tells him to stop sneaking up on her and tells him to come on with her to find the teacher. He then tells her it was joke he and Jake planned to scare Travis and Chang. Anna doesn’t know who Jake is but brushes it off and walks away. He stops to ask her to the dance and she accepts which makes him happy. They both hear screams and they rush to find Travis who is clearly traumatised. Anna is upset about the prank which Will says wasn’t even scary.
On the day of the cotillion, March 15th 2011, Anna walks up to him saying Travis is not going to school. Will asks for how long which she says probably never due to the prank. She then questions what actually happened which Will says that all Jake and he did was okay a prank. Anna then asks who’s Jake and says that there is no kid named Jake but Will assures her Jake is real. The school janitor overheats this and stops Will saying he couldn’t meet Jake Skinner. Will asks why and the janitor says because he did 1961 over 50 years ago. He denies this but looks for graduation photos in the hallway. He then looks at the school’s trophy case which shows a memorial photo of him. In denial of this , Jake confronts him. Will is terrified saying that Jake is dead. Jake then reminds Will of their deal. Will then demands for Jake to stay and he walks away.
Will then confronts the janitor about Jake. The janitor tells him about how Jake was a loner who had no friends and was constantly picked on by jocks. Annoyed, Jake pulled a prank on them. On the night of the Spring Fling they took him away and threw crackers at him causing a fire causing Jake to die in the school fire. Will asks the janitor what does Jake want but the janitor declares that he was the one who made friends with a ghost. Will then hears a sound asking where Jake is demanding him to come out. Jake angrily yells saying that he helped Will and that he owes him. Will opens a locker room and travels to 1961. He sees old bikes and a picture of John. F Kennedy. The door opens and a group of jocks grab Jake and throw him in a cage. They throw cracks at him saying that who would help a loser like him. A fire begins and Will tells his name. Jake begs him to help him and that he helped Will and it’s his turn. Will grabs a weight and begins hitting the lock with it and it opens. He asks where Jake is and he says that they are even and Jake smiles leaving him. A scorching bookcase falls down and Will screams. Will than wakes up and the place is no longer in flames. He then sees a picture of Barack Obama and smiles saying he did it but then looks at a clock saying he is late for his dance with Anna. He then finds Anna but it seems she is ignoring him. He then begs her to forgive him. Jake then talks to Anna saying if she is waiting for someone special. She then says she thought she was and reveals she really liked Will. Will tries to talk to her but she continues to ignore him. Jake then says he made a mistake. He introduces himself and Anna thought he didn’t exist. Jake then says he does now and offers to dance with her. Will then tells saying he is not real she walks through him revealing he is a ghost. He sorrowfully watches Jake and Anna dance together. Jake then says that they are even smiling leaving Will in terror.
Dead Bodies[]
Since his death, Will has been having trouble between fading between the worlds of the living and the dead, and is angry at Jake for tricking him. Within three months' time, everyone at Central High declared Will missing, including Anna.
However, Will is now a ghost, after being tricked to die in Jake's place. An angry Will haunts Jake after that point, but this does not bother him as Jake was himself a ghost for over fifty years. After meeting Jake at his home and demanding his life back, Jake told him to do what he did, and that the only way to do that was to have a good reason to stick around.
Will later finds out that Jake has had a curse put on him by the Grim Reaper, which causes Jake's flesh to rot off until he decays into nothing. Will taunts him about this, saying that "I may not get my life back, but it looks like you're not keeping yours.". However, Jake has come up with a plan to fix this: trick Anna into dying in his place, just like he tricked Will.
When Jake and Anna go on a date where Jake explains the situation to Anna (by showing her his rotting face), but she is horrified by him and wants to be taken home. Jake almost guilt-trips her into the deal by calling her shallow, Will finds the power to fully materialize in the human world out of his love and protective instincts for Anna. He and Jake fight, but the latter loses when Anna hits him in the ribs with a tree branch. At that point, the Grim Reaper reappears and drags a screaming Jake to the underworld for his crimes. After that, an angel appears before Will and grants him his life back. Will and Anna leave so Will can be reunited with his parents, with Will and Anna restarting their relationship.
